International School of Architecture

city          .  Old Havana | Cuba

program   .

The School of Architecture is comprised of the department of Architecture, Art, Communication Arts, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Music. It will be a new avenue for international students to hold a dialogue and understand the socio-cultural, architectonic, and historical values of Old Havana. This school will be a new identity in the colonial community not only as a modern building that interprets the typological elements of Cuban colonial architecture that responded efficiently to local climate conditions and people’s idiosyncrasy, but also as a building that introduces new environmental strategies, materials, and methods ensuring a more efficient solution and still maintaining its identity while respecting the principles of the colonial context. Through his international exchange program, architecture students will have an opportunity to establish international contacts for new learning experiences and future networking opportunities, to gain exposure about Cuban culture and society, and to pursue design research on specific topics within the colonial setting of Old Havana. And at the same time, this School of Architecture will bring cultural interactions to the community, and will give Cubans the opportunity to find out something new about their own culture by seeing it from another perspective.
